  1. The film "The Official Story" was not a satisfying one but it was very true to the time where the the story was suppose to be taking place, with the women who were killed and their children being given away to families that may or may not have had a clue about how they got the child or even maybe had a hand in the killings. In the article "Orphaned in Argentina's dirty war, man is torn between two families" I thought all of the plot was pretty bold, and just stated with not much elaboration, for example on page one Victor Rei goes to Alejandro and just plan out says "You are the son of the disappeared" and also the grandmother telling/introducing her as his grandmother on page three was just like "Im your grandmother." and than he says, "No, I am not". In my personal opinion the video had more of an impression on me because it got more of the emotional message across to the viewers and the message from this topic really needs to be a connected one so that these kind of things don't happen again.

I think the movie "The Official Story" was a good movie, until the ending. I thought it was good because it followed what was happening in history very well at that time period. The whole idea of women and men getting killed, and families in the army getting the murdered families children is not a very pleasant thought. I think it was a horrible thing that they were doing back then, but I'm not sure that the grandmother should have been able to keep Gaby(I believe that was her name). I also didn't like the father in the movie at all because he was very shady, and he beat up his wife! In the end, I liked the movie, just not how it ended.

  3. I thought that the movie "The Official Story", was a good visual to what was happening to families finding out about their child's past. I also think that the movie did a good job portraying what the grandparents of the missing were feeling, by showing the character of Gaby's grandmother, and how she was fighting to get her back by protesting in the plaza, was one example of that. I also thought that the author of the article brought up a good point, that they should do everything they can to find the kids now, because, for example a grandmother who is 90, is still looking, but they're getting old, and are close to dying. Overall I thought the movie helped give a good portrayal of how this affected families during the time in Argentine, and also the article helped reinforce the fact that this actually happened, and also that it's still a problem trying to be solved today.

  5. "The Official Story", in my opinion sent a good message. It really showed the struggles not only of the children of the orphans but the adopted parents. In the movie, Alicia goes through a deep struggle to try and find out where gabby came from. The movie was a great representation of the atrocities that happened in Argentina during the dirty war.

In the article we read, It showed the struggle from the adopted child's point of view. Instead of the parent trying to find out where the child came from it was the child trying to find is biological family. This was touching story that related a lot to the movie.

  6. Like previous comments, i thought the movie was pretty good all the way up to the ending. I thought the ending could have been better because it didn't really wrap everything up; sort of leaves the viewers on the edge of their seats. Also, like Lizzy mentioned,I thought the father was crazy and very selfish for not believing Gaby could have a grandmother. In the end, i thought the movie had a solid plot and events, but the ending could have been better.

Tho Offical Story is a heart wrenching film about a mother trying to figure out if her daughter is one of the children born to "the missing".

  8. I liked the film 'The Official Story' overall. I think it displayed emotions such as terror and doubt, and the struggle of characters to overcome adversities in their relationships accurately. This made it easy to be empathetic as to what the characters were going through—such as Alicia—because her emotions were well enacted and presented. This movie based on the denial of genocide and countless "disappearances" directly reminded me of that Holocaust Denial article we wrote. This is what scared me, because as a world if we ever try to attempt to erase history by the denial of the past or the conscious "forgetting" of it—the danger is unfathomable as mistakes from history will not be learned and have the dangerous potential of being repeated.
